Seraphs

The Divine

Seraphs are the rulers of Arcardia and the race deemed, by themselves and the dragons, as the most connected to ichor. They are officially recognised as 'Divine Dragons' in Anerc, whilst the rest of Arcardia generally refers to them as Seraphs or sometimes, to the Seraphs disapproval, Quetzalcornu, which translates to 'multi-winged' in old script. However, despite calling themselves 'Divine Dragons', whether they actually are related to dragons is… another issue.

As you may guess from that description, Seraphs are generally not a nice bunch. While they often use a name for their race that describes them as dragons, they do make sure to remind the dragons of their place. Seraphs often consider themselves gods amongst mortals, and they surely do behave that way.

Physiology

Seraphs are a quadrupedal race with rather unique anatomy. They have very long, slender necks, two pairs of wings, or three if you count their back legs, and always a pair of smooth, and usually quite extravagant, horns. They also have short beaks. Their preferred habitat is around coasts and humid/wet climates. In terms of general diversity, seraphs can have anything that isn't fur or feathers. They are usually very slender and very tall. They are the largest race of Arcardia - but far from the heaviest. Seraphs are very lightweight for their size, and they need to be, to be able to take flight.

Their forelimbs, which double as their first set of wings, are very long, have a horse-like structure (hind-limb structure but backwards, essentially) with their hands at the end facing backwards - these hands having two fingers and one thumb. Their second pair of wings sit slightly behind and above, as they would on a dragon, and always have at least one finger claw. The seraphs hindlimbs, which act as another pair of small wings, are much shorter in comparison to their forelimbs, with four toes and one dew claw that sits on the ground like the other toes.

Seraphs generally have very short tails, and they always have a hood that starts where their ears would. This hood is flexible, and can move up and down as they please. They are however, mostly show. Seraphs are large, imposing, and in terms of colours and patterns, bright and flashy are where they're at. They always have brightly coloured patterns on the dorsal side of their hood and wings - similar to that of a butterfly. Seraphs are prey animals, and are herbivorous. In nature, they use their hood, size, and massive wing span as a threat display - flashing their bright markings to ward off attackers, and if that fails, they have a hallucinogenic venomous bite. Seraphs do not have the speed or agility to run away or take off very easily.

Seraphs have extremely long, cylindrical, tongues that are actually meant for eating nectar and sometimes insects - though of course they don't have use for this anymore. These tongues usually end in a bright colour that matches either their eyes or another colour on their body. The tongue in their common forms are still long, but not nearly as, and resemble a tongue more like a humans - just a little more narrow towards the end.

A seraphs eyesight isn't terrible, but definitely not the best. Many seraphs are short-sighted. Their eyes lack the sclera only in their true forms, but in their common forms they return. They have a rounded pupil in both forms.

In their common forms, seraphs change a little more than most other races. They do not have clawed hands, instead just human hands, like the equines. Their first pair of wings dissapear and instead take the form of little fins on the back of their forearms. This fin has the same shape as how the wings would look, and the same amount of digits, it can rise and lower as they please. Another unique trait is how their tails change - instead of having the normal tail they have in their true forms carrying over, they instead have a tail fan with the same patterning as their hindwings. Seraphs however, like most races, cannot hide their wings or horns in the common forms.

abilities

hallucinogens ▸ Seraphs are venomous- but their venom is not lethal. They have usually four or five pairs of needle-like teeth in their top jaw which are the instruments used to inject the venom. These teeth are able to fold back, which is their resting position. The venom is hallucinogenic, and if the target is small enough, paralyzing. The venom is meant to be used as a final resort, causing visual and sometimes auditory hallucinations - coupling that with the seraphs often complex and bright wing patterns, it can be an absolute nightmare - and would give a seraph ample time to escape. Effects of the venom wear off in usually about an hour or two. These fangs do not carry over to their common forms - they just have flat teeth.

the great soarers ▸ Their four massive wings, and two extra hindwings, are built for long flights - Seraphs are excellent soarers. High stamina, great passive fliers, a seraph can stay airborne for hours at a time before needing to rest. Seraphs are however lacking when it comes to active flight. They aren't very agile, or fast, and their size makes it hard to fly in spaces that aren't very open. Seraphs fly in a similar position to that of a heron. Their necks tucked inwards.
